In fact we should consider the range of the corresponding inverse trigonometric functions as follows:
(1) Sub x = a sin θ
Then θ = sin-1 (x/a) and with reference to the curve of arc sin below:

We can see that the range is between -π/2 and π/2 (close interval) and therefore:
-π/2 ≦ θ ≦ π/2
(2) Sub x = a tan θ
Then θ = tan-1 (x/a) and with reference to the curve of arc sin below:

-π/2 < θ < π/2
(3) Sub x = a sec θ
