People have different interpretations of the passage.

I have checked the word "passage" in Yahoo dict. For the above statement, why the preposition here is "of ", but not "to"?

general speaking, " to " has an associative indication of kind of DIRECTION if you read the second definition of PASSAGE at yahoo dictionary

Magellan was trying to find a passage to the Indian Ocean.

if you are NOT convinced, then try to explore the definition of the two prepositions TO and OF

try to study the use of the preposition OF
