Relevant Study on Language Learning
It is said that the sooner the children are to be seperated from their mother tongue
to switch to the second language, the better will be the results of learning. But this
saying is lack of practical proof to support. It has even been overturned by the
recent researches by the scholars in Holland, USA and Canada that the ability of
second language learning will not be sharply deteriorated as one gets older.
On other hand, some researchers have found that for children who are good
at their first language will also be doing well when they come across their learning
process. There are increasing number of researches that the best time to introduce
children to second language learning will be at the time after they have acquired
enough skills in their first language which is in contrast to the conventional idea
that the sooner the better. The relevant study have also pointed out that first
language as well as second language learning will have lasted at least 5 to 7 years
before the intensive bilingual benefits of can be attained. The apocalypse of the
research may be that mother tongue learning benefit not only to the itself, but also
is a great boost in second language learning.
