The situation in Burma (Myanmar) has been volatile over the past month, with reports on the people's suffering and the casualties, mainly monks, due to the military government action filling most of newspapers' coverages. I remember reading that the monks asked civilians not to join the demonstration to avoid preventable danger or loss of lives. For their country, they were willing to sacrifice and take the demonstration upon themselves. I think it was a heroic and courageous act. Their peaceful demonstration did not yield the result they wanted, however, and they paid the ultimate price for irritating the military government, which was infuriating and a real shame.
With the abundant natural resources and fertile land she boasts, Burma should have been the richest countries in Southeast Asia, but the corrupt government did not manage the country well. The bloodshed was brewed by deep-rooted corruption, the lack of water, electricity and food supply and long-standing oppression . I hope that this issue will be resolved soon so that no more lives will be lost.
