What is ' a couple of years'? Means two years.
a couple - 通常指一雙, 例如夫婦.

樓上位人兄講得冇錯，當couple擺係名詞前面既時候是解一對或一雙，但是現代英語特別是美式英語當couple之後是second, minute, hour, year 呢ｄ時間名詞既時候已經被視為幾秒，幾分鐘，幾小時，幾年等等既意思。
所以"a couple of years"現代英語會是指 "幾年".
