1. Connect the cells in series.
(Because the overall voltage is the sum up of all voltage of each cell when they are connected in series)

2. Connect the cells in parallel.
(Because the overall voltage remains the same as ONE cell, however, the overall current available is increased by the number of cells connected in parallel. So the circuit is supplied electricity by the batteries in a longer time.)
