1.Jane bought x tarts,she ate 1/4 of them,then her brother and sister ate 7 tarts.If 2 tarts

were left,find the value of x.

x-(1/4)x-7=2

1x-(1/4)x-7=2

(3/4)x-7=2

(3/4)x=9

x=12

∴The value of x is 12.

If x = the total no.of tarts
Jane has eaten 1/4, so that there are 3/4 left.

3/4x = 7+2 = 9
therefore x = 12
