Put a platinum wire into concentrated hydrochloric acid to remove the impurities on the surface of the wire.Then dip the wire to take a piece of sodium metal.
Heat the sample gently under non-luminous Bunsen flame.
A brilliant golden yellow is resulted.
This shows that the sample contains sodium.
