1.When 90 minus the product of 6 and a number ,the result is 36 . Find the number .
90-(6*y)=36
90-6y=36
90=6y+36
6y+36=90
6y=90-36
6y=54
y=54/6
y=9

2.When the sum of 2 times a number and 6 is divided by 3 , the result is 12 . Find the number .
(2y+6)/3=12
2/3y+2=12
2/3y=12-2
2/3y=10
y=10/ 2/3

1. Let the number be x
90 - 6x = 36
90 - 6x + 6x = 36 + 6x
90 = 36 + 6x
90 - 36 = 6x - 36
54 = 6x
x = 9

2. Let the number be y
(2y + 6)/3 = 12
2y + 6 = 36
2y + 6 - 6 = 36 - 6
2y = 30
y = 15
