x-y=1 ----(1)3x+2y= -12 -----(2)
from (1) x=y+1 -----(3)
put (3) into (2), 3(y+1)+2y) = -12
3y+3+2y = -12
5y= -15
y= -3
put y=-3 into (3), x=-3+1=-2
Check:
(-2) - (-3) = 1
3(-2) + 2(-3) = -6+(-6) = -12

3+3y+2y=-12
3y+2y=-15
5y=-15
y=-3
If y=-3, then
x-(-3)=1
x+3=1
x=-2
