Is there such thing as a Digital camera that is not slr, but can still have lens attatchments?

I own a Sony DSC F717 and it is not a slr camera, however i can attatch my own lenses and it does have some manual options. I am looking for a camera similar to this but with at least 8 megapixels and hopefully some fun built in features, and effects, and filters - i want a larger camera than one of those "pocket" cameras - something with some weight and options like the one i currently have just better - I am not interested in a full out slr though - any ideas?

MANY cameras can accept add-on lens attachments without being SLR's. Just choose a camera to your liking, such as a Canon G7 or G9, and check out the vendors to see what's avilable. I see there is a lens adapter for the G7 that will let you add a wide angle or teleconverter lens. One company even makes a fisheye for the G7.

unlike point and shoot cameras, companies spend time designing and creating a very nice cost:performance ratio all DSLR cameras today are decent, and all start at around $500 the Nikon D3100 and Canon Rebel T3 are the two cheapest.
