不同的「報名」性質,英文有不同的講法:

sign up (phrasal verb)
to agree to become involved in an organized activity:
e.g.1 [+ to infinitive] I’ve signed up to do the teas at the village fête.
e.g.2 She’s signed up for evening classes at the community college.

”sign up” 一般指「報名」參考某項活動。

apply (REQUEST) (verb) [intransitive]
to request something, usually officially, especially by writing or sending in a form:
e.g.1 By the time I saw the job advertised it was already too late to apply.
e.g.2 Please apply in writing to the address below.
e.g.3 We’ve applied to a charitable organization for a grant for the project.
e.g.4 [+ to infinitive] Tim’s applied to join the police.

”apply” 一般比較 “formal ”,用於正式的「報名」,其中文解釋以「申請」為主。

enrol UK (-ll-), US USUALLY enroll (verb) [intransitive or transitive]
to put yourself or someone else onto the official list of members of a course, college or group:
e.g.1 Is it too late to enrol at the college?
e.g.2 I enrolled for/in/on the modern art course.

”enrol” 都可以解作「報名」,不過主要是「報讀」某某學校/課程。

要選那一個,則要視乎詞語要用於那個情況。

Phrasal verb 應放於句子的什麼位置? verb 的位置。 Phrasal verb即 動詞片語,作用和動詞一樣。

一個 phrasal verb 可否放在句子的開頭?

可以,但要轉做 GERUND 或 PRESENT PARTICILE, 即加 ING。

e.g. Breaking up is hard to do.

    Giving up is not easy.

phrasal verb 之後要否加上comma? No. 好似動詞,TRANSITIVE 要加 OBJECT, INTRANSITIVE 不用加。

e.g. Put on your shoes.

    I want to give up.

act up (no object): misbehave (for people); not work properly (for machines).

"The babysitter had a difficult time. The children acted up all evening."

"I guess I'd better take my car to the garage. It's been acting up lately."

act like (inseparable): behave in a way that's like _____ .

"What's wrong with Bob? He's acting like an idiot."

Note that in case of is a prepositional phrase used with a noun which is similar in meaning to an if-clause. Compare the following:

In case of fire, exit from the building by the stairs. Do not attempt to use the lift.

If there is a fire, leave the building via the stairs. Don't try to use the lift.
