HELP! What am I supposed to LEARN in MY 20's?!?

I'm 22yrs old and I'm afraid I'm behind in life....socially, financially, emotionally, and intellectually! I worry about these things. What are you supposed to learn in life in your 20's? What are some of the major things? I have no idea who I am, or what I'm doing most days! Life is so confusing to me at times and I barely have anyone that I can trust in my life. So...what are the major things I can look forward to (or should definitely do) experience/learn/accomplish in my 20's? Any advice is appreciated.

I'm 31 and still haven't figured it out! My best advise is from my great-grandmother, who lived to be 103..."Take one day at a time and make sure you hide a little chocolate bar for the rough days!"

Dear Brandi,

When I was your age, I thought I was behind socially, financially, emotionally, and intellectually. In retrospect, no doubt, I was behind socially, and emotionally. I probably still am to a degree. However, I failed to appreciate myself intellectually, and was really doing okay financially given my situation, i.e., a self-supporting student.

My intellect was, and still is, my strongest point. I believe your intellect is your strongest point, and probably always will be. Therefore, focus on your strongest point, don't dwell on your weak ones. Let your strongest quality, pull you through life, make decisions based on intellect, not emotions, e.g., make decisions that will further your education, even if you don't really feel like it at the moment. Don't fraternize with individuals, just because you feel comfortable around them, select your friends and lovers based on intellect.

Whatever the outcome, of the cited recommendation, you will learn something, i.e., provided you try it. Probably, the most important thing you can learn in life, is, not doing the same thing over and over, when it doesn't work for you.

In the 20's, you should learn about yourself. Find out who you really are and determine what your life direction is. You should also try to be independent emotionally and physically.

Firstly I say welcome to adulthood and you are much more mature than you give yourself credit for. You think, you ask, you learn.

Start setting goals for yourself of where you imagine yourself living, wearing, what kind of car, make all these things very, very reasonable. Do you want to have a Christian life, a wild life, just how do you feature yourself to be. Make notes, and once you have decided these things ask yourself, is my education going to carry me there, do I need to go to college, trade school, what? Start saving money, even if its 5.00 a week,( my pt Gardner saves 5.00 out of every 40.00 he makes). So 22 should be goal making time and achievement seeking. Life affords you time to have a good time along the way. Your wise, and I give you a Star. Good Luck !
