What are the best rechargable batteries for my digital camera?

I just recently bought a new Olympus FE-210/X-775. I have Duracell rechargeable batteries that I used on my old digital camera and it could go for days but when I put them in all my new one my batteries died fast. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.

Different types of batteries (even rechargeables) have different characteristics. For a camera with electronic viewfinder you need batteries that will have a long life at maximum output and a very rapid fall off as the charge is expended. The best choice would be either of these types of rechargeable Lithium-Ion or Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-Mh). Third choice would be Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) but they usually have a longer charge cycle and "remember" how much charge was used on previous occasions so they often lose their charge more quickly.

Be sure the charger you have is designed for the type of batteries you are going to use. Also check to see if the charger has a circuit to change to a "trickle" or "maintenance" mode so it stops charging after the batteries are fully charged, that will prevent overcharging and will extend the life of the batteries.

My choice, go to Radio Shack and buy Ni-Mh and a charger for $20-$30. I have some I got there over 4 years ago and I use them heavily (in an Olympus digital camera or an electronic flash) for a while then put them away for months and they still charge up and give me good life.

Hope this helps-

Your camera does not have an optical viewfinder, so you will have to use strategies to turn off the battery-hungry LCD as quickly as possible. The longer you leave it on, the quicker the batteries will drain. If you don't have an optical viewfinder so you MUST use the monitor, set it to turn off after the minimum time offered, such as 5 or 10 seconds. Don't spend too much time reviewing your pictures on your camera. Save that for the computer when you can use a card reader and not drain your camera batteries.

Rechargeable batteries are certainly the best and you should buy the highest milliamp hour rated batteries you can find, like 2500 or better. If you do not use rechargeable batteries, get Energizer e² LITHIUM batteries (or the Duracell equivalent) and you will get much better battery performance. They cost twice as much as alkaline batteries, but they last four times as long.
