Put the anhydrous CuSO4 into a beaker. Then dissolve all the CuSO4 by using distilled water to obtain blue CuSO4 solution.
Connect the electric wires to pure copper rod and impure copper rod respectively.
Connect the pure copper rod to the anode (where oxidation occurs)(positive terminal) of the D.C. power supply. Connect the impure copper rod to the cathode (where reduction occurs)(negative terminal) of the D.C. power supply.
Dip the two rods into the CuSO4 solution.
After a while, the pure copper rod will becomes smaller and dissolve into the solution.
The impurities on the impure copper rod will be removed. Also, some reddish brown solids deposited on the surface of the rod.
Then the impure copper rod can be purified.
