A reducing sugar is any sugar that forms some aldehyde or ketone. This allows the sugar to act as a reducing agent, for example: Benedict's reaction.
Reducing sugars include glucose, glyceraldehyde, lactose, arabinose and maltose.
sucrose is not a reducing sugar.
