You can try to blow the mouth piece with reed first (without the main body). The soft reed, say no 2 to 2.5 should be chosen. Place the reed into the water at least 15 minutes to make it soft and easy to play.To me, for performance, I will let it absorb the water overnight, esp the new reed. After you can make sound (not the windy sound) through the mouth piece, you can try to put it back to the body and blow the instrument.

The correct position of mouth for blowing the mouth piece is to put your teeth of upper jaw on the surface and your lip of lower jaw on the reed. Do not bite the mouth piece too hard and too deeply. Just try to make some pressure on it gradually until you can make sound. You can make reference to some web site for learning saxophone with diagram.

To have a teacher is a good start rather than learn wrongly in the beginning if you can afford to learn some lessons.
