be 解作「是」,為 is, am, are, was, were 的變化型。
按問者第1題至第9題的例子,前面已出現一個動詞,由於英文的文法(grammar)為每句只可以含有一個動詞,所以後面便使用to 來連接, 而to 之後要用 infinitive (不定詞,即第一欄),乃be 是也。
至於第10題, felt 後面又為何不加上 to be? 那是因為 feel 是個例外(exceptional case),凡是 feel 之後,可直接使用形容詞 embarrassed (尷尬的), 而副詞 very 的法則,就是可加在形容詞之前。例子:
I feel much (adv 副詞) better (adj 形容詞) now.
I feel badly (adv 副詞) hurt (adj 形容詞).
