  地球自轉時,由於地軸和地球公轉軌道的平面形成一個傾斜的角度,所以各地區受太陽光直射或斜射的程度,會隨著地球在公轉軌道上的位置而改變,各地的氣侯因而出現變化,產生四季。例如太陽直射北半球部分地區時,會同時斜射南半球部分地區。由於北半球部分乎區時,會同時斜射南半球部分地區。由於北半球部分地區接受的太陽光較集中,氣溫會較高,所以是夏季。相反,南半球部分地區就是冬季。至於在受陽光直射和斜射之間的地區,氣溫不冷不熱,就是春季或秋季。
