The verb takes –s the subject is third person, singular.
Paul mother loves to bake.
Verbs ending in –s, –z, -x, -ch and –sh take –es in the third person, singular.
(Exceptions:goes, does)
Verbs ending in consonant + y have –ies in the third person, singular.
Paul studies had.
Compare: Paul’s sister plays the piano.
(We do not change y into ie before –s herer because a vowel comes before the y.)

當動詞用在第三人稱(1個人),動詞後面要加s
當動詞用在第三人稱(1個人),而且動詞後面係s,z,x,ch或sh,動詞後面要加es
當動詞用在第三人稱(1個人),而且動詞後面係y,動詞後面要轉y變i加es
(如果y前面有響音字母,eg.,a,e,i,o,u,你無需轉y變i)
