1.John spends one-third of money to buy a toy.Then he spends $20 for food.If he spends $37 in total,how much money does he have at the belonging?
Let the money he has at the beginning be $x.


A car is travellingat a speed of v m/s.
2a What is the distance travelled by the car in t seconds?
2b Find the distance travelled by the car at a speed of 210m/s in one and a half minutes?

3.We can do arithmetic operations for directed numbers of fractions.

1. x/3 + 20 =37
x/3=17
x=51

2a. distance = time x velocity
=vt

2b. distance=vt=210 x 90 (since the velocity is in meter per second, we need to change the 1.5 minutes into 90 seconds)

=18900m

X = 51

1) Let the money he has at the beginning be $x

money to buy a toy=37-20=17
one-third of money =17
therefore:

the money he has at the beginning
= 17x3
=$51

2a)distance travelled by the car = (v)(t)

2b)
speed=v=210m/s
time=t=a half minutes=30s

therefore:

distance travelled by the car
=vt
=(210)(30)
=6300m
=6.3Km
