Q6. Brand A pain relief tablet is said to last μ=6 hours with σ=0.4 hours and to be normally distributed. The company is introducing a Brand A+ which is supposed to be more effective and to last longer. A sample of 20 patients tried the new tablets and was found to have a sample mean of 6.2 hours. On the basis of this sample can the company be believed? (Does the new tablet last longer?) Use α=0.05

Ho: u=6 hours
H1: u>6 hours

σ=0.4, n=20, s=6.2 hours

Test statistic = 6.2 / (0.4/20^1/2) = 69.32

Critical value, Z( α=0.05 ) = 1.645

As test statistic > critical value

Ho is rejected at 5% significance level

Hence, the new tablet lasts longer than the old one

Sorry, test statistic = (6.2-6.0)/(0.4/20^1/2) = 2.236As test statistic is greater than critical value, Ho is rejected at 5% significance level.The new table can last longer
