H.C.F. and L.C.M.

2) The H.C.F. and L.C.M. of two numbers are 6 and 108 respectively. If the two numbers are 12 and x, find x (Hint: x is a multiple of 6 and a factor of 108.)

3) There are two numbers. Neither of them is a multiple of the other. Find two pairs of possible values of the numbers if their H.C.F. is 16.

2) 12 = (2^2)*3
(Because) the H.C.F. of 12 and x is 6,
(Therefore)2^2 cannot be a factor of x while 2 is a factor of x.
108 = (2^2)*(3^3)
(therefore) x is 2*(3^3) = 54

3) 16 = 2^4
(Therefore), ((2^4)*3,(2^4)*2) and ((2^4)*4,(2^4)*3) are two possible pairs,
==>(48, 32) and (64,48) are the solutions.
