the past perfect tense

Past Perfect tense (過去完成式)的用法
Past Perfect由“had +過去分詞”構成。
1) Past Perfect 的動詞表示過去某一動作之前完成的動作狀態。句中常用by, before, until, when等詞引導的時間狀語。
例如：
By the end of last year we had built five new houses.
到去年爲止我們已經建了五套新房。
I had learnt 5000 words before I entered the university.
我在上大學前就已經學了5000個單詞。

2) Past Perfect的動詞還可表示過去某一時刻之前發生的動作或狀態持續到過去某個時間或持續下去。如：
Before he slept ,he had worked for 12 hours.
在他睡覺前，他已工作了12個小時。
By May 1st last year, he had worked in the Bank for five years.
至去年的 5月1號， 他已在銀行裏工作五年了。
