When the patient is conscious and mentally sound but yet who refuses treatment, the health care provder (like 救護員)should try to explain various advantages of treatment to the patient.
If all attempts to persuade the patient fail, no one can force the patient to receive treatment against his/her will.
There have been many examples of mentally sound patients refusing treatment when they are injured. One often cited example is a particular religion which advises its followers not to receive any blood donation from other people under any circumstances. A number of these religious disciples often died for refusing blood transfusion even when they were severely injured.
