Why Iron Rust?

Iron corrodes easily. Apart from its reactive chemical properties, the influence of the ambient condition is also significant. Moisture is one of the elements leading to the corrosion of iron. Yet, if only water is present, iron would not rust. Rusting only occurs when oxygen in the air dissolves in water. Oxygen reacts with iron under the presence of water, producing iron oxide, what is commnly known as iron rust.
