現在地鐵己經全面使用自動列車駕駛系統(ATO)，由電腦控制列車大部份的運作，亦設有監察中心監察列車的運作。而司機不需要控制速度，但好像要控制車門的開關(也許不用)。另外，司機的任務是在緊急情況控制列車（例如：有障礙物時）。九廣東、西及馬鐵都是使用自動列車駕駛系統。

係用電腦控制的..(ato)
只需按一個start制,,車就會自動開到下一站...
不過車長仍要控制車門開關,,和水撥,,燈,,緊急剎車等..

1. (ATO) Press Start button and the computer do the rest.
2. Control the handle (controller) and accelerate or braking (different train can be classified as one handle (use one handle to control the accelerate or braking) or two handles (use one handle to control acceleration and one handle to brake)
PS: ATO is 'Automatic Train Control', the computer can drive the train. The Disneyland Resort Line is one of the example.
