These are just open-ended questions

(a)
If the total amount of money is $ Y ,
then x =Y / 12 .

2x *5 + x * 2 = Y
12x = Y
x = Y / 12

(b)
If the number of coins is A ,
then x = A / 3.
2x + x = A
3x = A
x = A / 3

There are infinitely many solutions for parts a) and b).

a) The total amount of money = 2x * 5 + x * 2 = 12x
So, one example is: if the total amount of money is $12, then x = 1

b) The number of coins = 2x + x = 3x
So, one example is: if the number of coins is 3, then x = 1
