(a) First find the HCF of the two numbers 153 and 198,153 = 3 × 3 × 17
198 = 2 × 3 × 3 × 11
HCF = 3 × 3 = 9
Hence the largest possible length of each tile is 9cm.
(b) The number of tiles that are required to cover the floor
= (153cm / 9cm) × (198cm / 9cm)
= 17 × 22
= 374
