a floor measuring 153cm by198cm is to be cover with square tiles of the same size. if only whole tiles are used ,then fine :
(a) the largest possible length of the size of each tile ,
(b) hte number of tiles that are required to cover the floor.

(a) First find the HCF of the two numbers 153 and 198,
153 = 3 × 3 × 17
198 = 2 × 3 × 3 × 11
HCF = 3 × 3 = 9
Hence the largest possible length of each tile is 9cm.

(b) The number of tiles that are required to cover the floor
= (153cm / 9cm) × (198cm / 9cm)
= 17 × 22
= 374

(b) (153/9)(198/9) = 17*22 = 374
