Usually, I have the following methods. Since there are lots to read, you need to set priority. First, read the materials that you are not familiar with. For example, there are 9 topics in a subject. If you find Topic A is very difficult to understand, you should read the materials and chapters or books about Topic A first. Moreover, try to read the materials when you are travelling on bus or MTR as it helps. Last, when the exam approaches, read the materials that you are familiar with. Sometimes, you can guess what might be examed, so read the materials that you know the best. I think it is not wise to read the materials that you do not know well as your confidence might be affected. But, what I advice you is try to read all the materials. (Of course, you should consult professors what materials are important as sometimes, the course might not require you to read all).
Hope it helps!!
