Strictly speaking, what Joseph McManners did is not up to the current language standard. But of course there are different ascents and individual habits. Even for Cantonese, not all people speak in the same way but there is a commonly agreed standard. But languages do also have evolution and they keep changing. Who knows if something is a standard now will not be a standard anymore in the future, and something not a standard now will be a standard later.
