a) The investment value of the first month1 000 000 * (1+5%)
=$1 050 000
b) The investment value after four month
1 000 000 * (1+5%) the power of 4
=$1 215 506.25
c) The investment value of the fifth month
1 215 506.25 * (1-20%)
=$972 404.9999
Therefore, the man loses over a five-month period.
The percentage loss
(1 000 000 - 972 404.9999) / 1 000 000 * 100%
=2.76% ( 3 sig. fig. )
