“有改善的空間”
其實呢﹐呢句句子如果放係20年前﹐應該會比老師或者教授們狂插﹗
因為係好明顯既西化句子 - 衰在“的的不休”
有睇過思果關於“西化”字句論文的話﹐應該會知道我講緊乜。
“有改善空間” – that’s already ok la~!
PS: nowadays china’s author / students always commit to this westernized writing “habit” on one hand, and refuse to accept that they are in “fault” on the other…sigh!

cause that's the only sentence you've given here. if you do not have the whole context provided, then it would be difficult to determin.

Say the original text may sounds like "there is room for improvement". To me it would be perfectly fine to literally translate it into Chinese - simply because it has nothing in against the chinese syntax.

You may feel that "有" is a bit weird and more or less quite westernized. So do I.Probably if it's regarding someone's performances, I'd translate it as "可以做得更好" - tthen it sounds like even more "chinese" rite?

One more thing: I believe in dynamic equivalence

out of town for a while and sorry for late supplementary:When we critisied "westernized", the fundemental basis is that we already have a usual saying in our mother language - chinese - while people import a western syntax and language structure to interpret them.

思果had also said that westernization doesn't necessarily means critics, but also merits because sometimes it may bring along new vocabs and syntax and therefore enhance our own language. No doubt 「 有」和「空間」sounds quite westernized and if you're Chi. Lit student you may even find it preculiar

but my point is, while「空間」could be a useful term as it makes our description even more visualized and easily known, 「 有」is not my cup of tea and personally I avoid using it unless it's a must.

e.g.你有試過嗎﹖- 你曾經試過嗎﹖他有很多知己良朋 - 他知己良朋滿天下(有點誇張~)anyway just want you to understand my standpoint...又,個人經驗 - 如果必須用上"有",you may make it sounds more "chinese" by adding another word with it such as "尚有"...and of cuz you may think of many more.

Exactly! Of cuz languages are interracting with each other and I know many in HK thinks that it's stupid not to follow the trend of "modern" writing, but to me it's something treasurable and I'd rather preserve the traditional chinese writings.
