You want to use a radioactive tracer that will label only the protein in an RNA virus. Assume the virus is composed of only a protein coat and an RNA core. Which of the following would you use. Explain your answer and why the others are wrong.

answer is 3. Radioactive S

Radioactive S is a good tool to label proteins.When they are mixed with RNA virus,they will be incorporated into the protein of the virus because two of the amino acids — cysteine and methionine — contain sulfur.



radioactive phosphorus is used to label DNA.
