It is given that y varies inversely as x. If x is increased by50% , then y is decreased by?

y = k / x , k ≠ 0 y1 = k / x ( 1 + 50% )
y1 = 2k / 3x
The percentage change = {( y1 - y ) / y }( 100% )
= {( 2k / 3x - k / x ) / ( k / x )}( 100% )
= -33.3% ( cor. to 3 s.f. )
Therefore the % decrease is 33.3% .
