they wouldn't let me hang it 這句意思是不是已經掛起了?
當然唔係，你都見到有 not 啦。
would 同 could 都係 modal verbs，表示o既係對動詞中動作o既態度，或者係乜野情況下做。
would 講o既係意願，they wouldn't let me hang it 意為「佢地唔願意俾我掛起呢件東西」。
could 係「能夠」，可以係講能力（can o既過去式），亦可以講可能性。所以 i couldn't be careless 可以解「我不能夠不小心（因為後果嚴重）」，或者「我冇可能唔小心（因為不嬲都小心）」。

我想知道背後的真正意思是不是"他們不願意讓我掛起" 但事實上我已經做了這件事. －　－　－　－　－　－　－　－　－　－　－　－　單憑你上面呢句 they wouldn't let me hang it ，睇唔到你有冇做到，只係知道你想做，而佢地唔想你估你做。如果你係唔理人地點諗都做左，你可以加一句o係後面：but I did it anyway.

其實 hang 有幾個意思~
1. 掛上
2. 貼上
3. 安裝

如果照字面解就係 -- 他們不願意讓我(1/2/3)它.
但係俚語既話...就唔一定係1/2/3架啦...

i couldn't be careless就應該得一個解釋既~
就係我不可能大意的...
