Gah! Therapy?

My mother is trying to get me into therapy because of one of my fears. I'm terrified that someone will cut my achele's tendons, so much so that i recently paid $75 for a pair of steel and leather ankle gaurds and I refuse to leave the house with out wearing them.
Will therapy be effective at making me less afraid?

It is possible it is deeper than a phobia. I also suffer from Bi-polar mania and scitzophrenia.

It will help, but I would suggest you seeing someone who specializes in cognitive-behavior modification techniques.
If this fear is controlling you whole, which it sounds like it is, I would definitely suggest seeking professional help.

That sounds more like a paranoid which you will need both therapy and meds for! if it was merely a phobia I would say, sure, go for aversion or systematic desensitization therapy!

Yes. There is a lot of research which shows that cognitive behaviour therapy is very effective in treating fears and anxieties. Be sure and find a therapist who uses that type of therapy. Good luck.

You should go because your subconscious mind has already accepted that someone will cut your tendons, and u r now doing things to avoid it. Can you trace back and find out what causes this?
