How do acid and alkali corrode?

We can wash our hands by alkali but not with acid. WHY?? what is the difference when acid and alkali corrode?

coz if u use acid to wash ur hand for a long period ur hand skin cells will get damage

also,strong acid n alkali is corrosive

the detergents we use to wash our hands is slightly alkaline, which will not damage our skin. and alkaline substance has the power to clean things, but acid don't. so we use alkaline detergents instead of acid.

both acid and alkali are strongly corrosive if they are concentrated.
