It should be ok to sleep in both position, but remember the followings:
Sleep on your back
1) Good shaped pillow which can support your neck.
2) Put a pillow behind your knees in order to release the stress on your waist.
Sleep on your side
1) Better to sleep on you right side.
2) Put a pillow between you legs at your knees, so that your spine will not be twisted too much.
3) Of course a good shaped pillow to support your neck.
You may feel good when sleeping on a soft & fluffy pillow, but it is not good for your neck. Good shaped pillow is not difficult to find, normally height of the curve on both sides of the pillow is different, the side with the lower curve is for sleeping on your back, the high side is for sleeping on your side. Have a good sleep every night!
