Conditional 有四種

If it rains, I carry an umbrella. (If 可用when/whenever代替)

Form:

2.Future Possible Conditional

If it rains tomorrow , I will carry my umbrella.

I will be very surprised if I pass my English test.

Form: If 句用現在式動詞, 另一句用will/can/should/must/may/might + 動詞.

3.Present Unreal Conditional

If I were you, I would talk to my boss.

If it were raining, I would call a taxi.

*** be 在這個情況下, 不論係 I, he/she/it 都用were 而不是was ***

Form: If 句用過去式動詞, 另一句用would/could/may/might + 動詞.

4.Past Unreal Conditional

If we had bought that house in 1980, we could sell it now for a lot of money.

If they hadn’t come to the United States, they would have gone to Canada.

If she had continued studying law, she would be graduating next June.

Form: If 句用past perfect(過去現成),

另一句用would have/could have/might have 或者 would/could/might.

Conditional Sentences / If-Clauses Type I, II und III
Conditional Sentences are also known as Conditional Clauses or If Clauses. They are used to express that the action in the main clause (without if) can only take place if a certain condition (in the clause with if) is fulfilled. There are three types of Conditional Sentences.

Conditional Sentence Type 1
It is possible and also very likely that the condition will be fulfilled.

Form: if + Simple Present, will-Future

Example: If I find her address, I’ll send her an invitation.

Conditional Sentence Type 2
→ It is possible but very unlikely, that the condition will be fulfilled.

Form: if + Simple Past, Conditional I (= would + Infinitive)

Example: If I found her address, I would send her an invitation.

Conditional Sentence Type 3
→ It is impossible that the condition will be fulfilled because it refers to the past.

Form: if + Past Perfect, Conditional II (= would + have + Past Participle)

Example: If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation.

Exceptions
Sometimes Conditional Sentences Type I, II and III can also be used with other tenses.
