正寫應該是"Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique"，乃法文名稱。英文名稱International Federation of Gymnastics，但在官方網址也儘量避免用英文名稱。

在它的歷史上有提到，1881年成立"Fédération Européenne de Gymnastique"，即稱為「歐洲體操聯盟」，到1921年當有非歐洲國家參與才更名為"Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique"。所以這個機構在1881年成立，可以說是也可以說否。
