A question about extension of SAR Pssport

First of all, you can submit an application to the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in the states you reside. Once you've submitted all the documents and fees, you can get your HKSAR Passport in the USA. (Takes app. 3 weeks) The form is available here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/ID843n.pdf
On the other hand, if you do decide to come back to Hong Kong to renew your passport, it will cost you $360/470 (depending on the page number) and takes 10 business days to complete and 2~3 days for mailing. The form is available here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/ID841n.pdf
Unlike HKID, you don't need to /can't make appointment to replace your HKSAR Passport.

如 你 屬 以 下 人 士 ， 便 有 資 格 申 請 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 護 照 ：

一. 中 國 公 民 ；
二. 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 永 久 性 居 民 ； 以 及
三. 持 有 有 效 的 香 港 永 久 性 居 民 身 份 證 者 。


在 海 外 定 居 的 人 士

凡 在 香 港 或 中 國 其 他 地 區 出 生 ， 並 具 有 中 國 血 統 的 香 港 居 民 ( 包 括 前 居 民 ) 或 符 合 《 中 華 人 民 共 和 國 國 籍 法 》 所 訂 有 關 中 國 國 籍 的 條 件 ， 並 擁 有 外 國 居 留 權 的 回 港 定 居 人 士 ， 除 非 他 們 已 向 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 入 境 事 務 處 申 報 變 更 國 籍 ， 並 獲 批 准 ， 否 則 會 被 視 作 中 國 公 民 。

( 注 意 ： 「 定 居 」 一 詞 是 指 在 一 處 地 方 通 常 居 住 ， 而 居 留 期 不 受 任 何 條 件 限 制 。 )

如 你 選 擇 向 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 入 境 事 務 處 申 報 變 更 國 籍 ， 以 外 國 公 民 身 份 在 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 居 留 ， 在 申 報 獲 得 批 准 後 ， 你 將 沒 有 資 格 申 請 香 港 特 別 行 政 區 護 照 ， 因 為 你 已 不 再 是 中 國 公 民 。
