Heavy metal (sometimes referred to simply as metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s.[1] With roots in blues-rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, heavy, guitar-and-drums-centered sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion and fast guitar solos. In the mid-1970s, Judas Priest helped spur the genre's evolution by discarding much of its blues influence; the New Wave of British Heavy Metal followed in a similar vein, fusing the music with a punk rock sensibility and an increasing emphasis on speed.

Heavy metal became broadly popular during the 1980s, when many now-widespread subgenres first evolved. Variations more aggressive and extreme than metal music of the past were mostly restricted to an underground audience; others, including glam metal and, to a lesser extent, thrash metal went on to mainstream commercial success. In recent years, styles such as nu metal have further expanded the definition of the genre.

Guns N Roses - American hard rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. Having sold an estimated 90 million albums worldwide. Motley Crue - is a popular American glam metal band from Los Angeles, California. The band is made up of Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil. Mötley Crüe is considered one of the most successful American glam metal bands, having sold over 42 million albums worldwide and 25 million records in the US alone.


Def Leppard - a British rock band from Sheffield who formed in 1977 as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. High sales of the albums Pyromania and Hysteria made Def Leppard one of the top selling rock bands of the 1980’s, having sold 70 million albums worldwide.


Metallica -a Grammy Award-winning American heavy metal band formed in 1981, which has become one of the most commercially successful musical acts of recent decades. Metallica has sold more than 90 million records worldwide, including 57 million albums sold in the United States alone.


AC/DC - hard rock band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. I would recommend Guns n Roses for not-so-into heavy metal fan as theie songs are more eay-listening. The so-called heavy metal bands nowadays are not pure heavy metal but instead having gothic, thrash, punk.... elements in their songs.
