CityU Academic Dress
It is a worldwide tradition for University graduates to wear academic dress to attend the Congregation ceremony. The academic dress of CityU, consisting of a gown, hood and mortarboard cap or bonnet, varies in style according to the levels and types of award.
Honorary Doctors wear a gown of Purple silk. The colour of the hood, the tassel on the soft Purple silk bonnet and the front facings of the gown are the same which distinguishes the discipline.
How to wear the Academic Dress
The hood is to be worn on top of the gown and over the shoulders, with the coloured silk lining slightly turned out and draped at the back. The stole is to be worn on top of the gown, with the middle across the back of the neck and the two ends draping in the front. The cap or bonnet is to be worn after you have been presented for award, and the tassel is usually on the left side.
Some manikins displaying the way of wearing the academic dress will be set up on campus for your reference when you come to pick up your academic dress and attendance guest tickets.
The Congregation is a formal occasion to celebrate your achievements. Casual wear items like jeans and sneakers should be avoided.
