I'm applying for various part-time positions for jobs such as Walmart, Fast Food Franchises, etc. and I never had a job before and I don't know how formal I should dress for an interview, so help me out please. :-)

I think that you can get away with somewhat casual but keep in mind that the impression that you want to give is that you take this very seriously. Two candidates my be equally qualified so they're going to look at your appearance to determine how much effort you're putting in. These may not seem like fantastic jobs but it's what your starting with and should make the effort. Good luck!

Maybe just black slacks and a good shirt? I really don't know - I mean, for places like fast food restaurants and Wal-Mart probably won't be expecting a suit and tie or a fancy dress or something, but looking professional will probably help a lot. :) Good luck!

Nice, neat, pressed pants and a shirt. Tennis shoes should be fine as long as they are clean.

Don't wear jeans and a tshirt!

I would wear Dockers, a dress shirt and a tie, but no jacket.

You always want to dress at or above the level that the employees at place you wish to be employed by dress. If you dress below, you look sloppy and messy. Dressing above the standard is great, just don't go out and rent a tux. Do not wear a hat, tennis shoes, or shorts as these are all very unprofessional. Make sure that whatever you do wear is washed and clean -- break out the iron if you need to!!

For Wal-Mart of fast food - slacks and a button up shirt should be fine.

You are aiming for "business casual"

Also, make sure you have trimmed you nails & your hair looks neat - these are important.

The big job websites like Monster.com have lots of good tips

And don't worry TOO much, interviewers once had a first job interview too!

Best of luck!
