電腦 server REFERS to hardware server. ***

Normally, 電腦 server is a powerful type of computer.
It is usually used to serve many many users (or other connected devices).

For example, Yahoo! Knowledge system has at least several computer servers behind.

Another example can be the ATM system of the Bank. It has several powerful computer servers running to support thousand of ATM machines in Hong Kong. Banks typically deploy very powerful computer servers to provide banking services to its customers.

Other example can be Google system which will have many servers running to support its search engine, indexed keywords and webpages. RTHK will have several computer servers behind to provide its radio programme on the Internet via streaming servers.

As described above, company will deploy computer server to provide services to public, or its customers, usually via a computer network nowadays.


*** please note that apart from Computer server, there is also a term known as " server software ". For example, Microsoft Windows 2003 Sever, Exchange Server, Small Business Server, etc... they are all software (NOT hardware) system.
