Many people notice the downside of smoking, yet there are still many smokers around the world. Cigarette are proven to be highly addictive, but is fulfilling the addiction is that important? Is it even more important than other people lives and even their own life?? Smoking cigarette is the direct lead to many serious health diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, respiratory diseases, circulatory and birth defects. The main concern for smoking is that these diseases do not happen only on the smoker, but also occur on the non-smokers who unfortunately have to inhale second-hand smokes consistently. This means that even if you are a non-smoker, your chance of getting the life-threatening diseases is about the same as the smoker because they smoke, and you who have no choice but have to inhale their second-hand smoke. This is an extremely unfair situation, and none of the non-smokers are willing to risk their lives for the smokers. Many governments impose restriction on smoking, trying to minimize the population of smoker and the bans vary by countries. In Hong Kong, smoking was banned by the HKSAR government commencing January 2007. Smoking is now prohibited in most public places including restaurants, bars, cafes, public toilets, beaches and public parks. Although this ban prevented smoking in public areas and resulted of lots of fresh air indoor, a lot of the smokers had move their smoking location onto the street where the ban is not effective. By smoking on the street, second-hand smoke are still an issue, it is still affecting everyone’s lives. In most non-smokers’ mind, they are probably thinking if smoking only causes problems, why not just quit? I agree, but according to surveys, there are approximately 5.5 trillions of cigarettes are being produce globally in a year, one-sixth of our world population are smokers, which equal to approximately over 1.1 billions people around the world. It would take an extreme long time, for everyone to quit, and for the last cigarette to be litter out.
