What is 六四?(快)

- in 1980s china has much social & political problem after open to the world & economic reform for years.
- the conservative and the reformers has power struggles. Hu Yaobang 胡耀邦 was failed in this struggle, and he is the one loved by people - he insisted on rapid reform, and he has never corupted.
- 15 Apr 1989 - Hu was died of heart attack. starting in universities, more & more people gathered to mourn for the death of HU - who is the symbol of reform & new hope of china.
- 18 Apr 1989 - 10000 students sit-in tiananmen square, same night several thousand student stay in front of the govt office, request to talk with the govt, but was refused.
- over 100000 students joint this protesting, and the beijing people too.
- people come out and protest to support the students - shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, hong kong, taiwan, canada...even some westerners.
- the hong kong protest is a record - the media said it is one millian people, the official figure is 300,000, completely in peace and order.
-government declared martial law on May 20, but the people were not stopped.
- army & tanks march towards beijing. people tried to block the road to stop the tanks, and they talk to the soildiers all along the road and ask them not to kill the students. they have some fights, and some injury.
-at night of june 3, the army & tanks enter the tiananmen square.
-nobody know how many people was killed. the ifguar from red-cross is 2600 in the morning of june 4. most of the figuares are around 3000 - 6000.
-the student leaders escape, Wang Dan was caught and put in jail. some other escape to US. many citizens who joint the protest were caught and put in jail.
-the chinese govt was blamed by international govts and people, and almost all the chinese all over the world. ( even some LEFT wing people in HK openly express their sadness & anger at that time, althought they change their mind today.)
