Since it is a formal dinner, black is fine. Black suits are only acceptable for formal evening wear, not daily business wear. So when you have this made, you can wear it whenever you have to attend evening events (or when you come to my concerts...).
My suggestions: single-breasted, 2-button, peak-lapel, flat-front pants (or single-pleated), straight-leg, no cuffs.
Pick a pale yellow, if you must choose yellow. Otherwise, any shade of pink would work well with our Asian complexion too. Yellow and black don't go well together, and it'll be hard to pick the right tie. You can don the Regis look - yellow tie and yellow shirt, if you can find a solid yellow tie (or have the tie custom-made for you - email me if you need help).
Pointy shoes will make you look like an elf. I would suggest a modestly squared toe.
Any Hong Kong tailor charging below $3k is suspicious - they will either have very bad workmanship or the suit is made in China.
Good luck!
