There are only four different types of true tastes - sour, sweet, salt and bitter.
Approximately 80-90% of what we perceive as 「taste」 actually is due to the sense of smell.
That is why when we have a head cold or a stuffed up nose, the food we eat always taste dull .

taste 是味道, smell 是氣味 We taste the food with our tongues. We smell with our noses.
